NEWSFLASH

Global Changemakers Summit
London
25 November to 01 December 2012

The Global Changemakers Summit is an event organized by the British Council which brings together volunteers, entrepreneurs and social activists from around the world. The aim is to exchange experiences and ideas and develop action plans leading to new social projects in areas ranging from from HIV / AIDS to the fight against corruption, to education or human rights.

2012's Portuguese participant - selected from over 3400 applications - was Diogo Silva, an ambitious young student of economics and social entrepreneur involved in the project "Transformers", a youth organization that aims to combat new and emerging social problems and challenges by mobilizing what they consider to be the most untapped asset of society: youth.

What is the Euro-Africa Youth Summit?

The Euro-Africa Youth Summit will select and bring together 60 young social entrepreneurs, community activists and volunteers from Africa and Europe for a five-day summit which will:

  • Improve participants’ knowledge, insight, and exposure to key economic, political, and social issues in and between Africa and Europe and feature top thinkers and social entrepreneurs from both continents
  • Improve participants’ ability to design and deliver projects by giving them the concrete tools and skills they need to amplify their work including project management, fundraising, working with the media, and advocacy
  • Connect young European and African activists and serve as a platform to exchange knowledge, ideas and best practices of what works most effectively at the grass roots.

Portugal's Global Changemaker

The event will bring together 60 young social entrepreneurs and activists and volunteers from Africa and Europe in a five-day meeting with the objectives of: exchanging experiences and knowledge about the key social, economic and political issues in both continents; through training sessions, improving the capacity of participants to develop and manage their social projects; bringing together European and African youth activists in a discussion platform for exchanging ideas and best practices.
