About IELTS

Would you like to pursue your studies and your career? Then IELTS is the test you are looking for. IELTS, the International English Language Testing System, is designed to assess the language ability of candidates who need to study or work where English is the language of communication.

IELTS conforms to the highest international standards of language assessment. It covers the four language skills - listening, reading, writing and speaking. There are two modules to choose from, the Academic (required by universities) and the general (mainly used for immigration to English speaking countries)

WHERE IS IELTS RECOGNISED?

The test is recognised by universities and employers throughout the world, including the UK, Australia, Canada, New Zealand.

IELTS is now widely accepted in the USA, where it is recognised as an alternative to the TOEFL test. Please consult the IELTS USA home page for more details and the latest recognition lists of US universities

IELTS is a requirement for MBAs and Erasmus Mundus Masters in Portugal such as the Universidade Católica where either the TOEFL or IELTS tests are a condition of entry. It is recognised by professional bodies such as banks and large multinational companies, immigration authorities and other government agencies.

IELTS is jointly managed by the British Council, University of Cambridge ESOL Examinations (Cambridge ESOL) and IDP:IELTS Australia. It is not recommended for candidates under the age of 16.

For more information about this test, visit the IELTS website and visit 'Downloads' for the IELTS handbook or look at the 'Sample IELTS exam material'.
