Communicating Identities: Intercultural and intermedial encounters in ELT
Our learners often find themselves wishing they could belong to the unfamiliar world they learn about in their textbooks. How can they profit from the enriching experience of coming into contact with otherness by reflecting on their own values and identity and on the construction of their self-image?

This presentation will explore some answers to these questions derived from putting into contact materials from diverse cultures and media, from comics to literary classics, from folk tales to V-logs, from rap to tango –an encounter which challenges presuppositions on what materials and contents to use in ELT classes.
