The scheme was established with the Portuguese Ministry of Education in 1986 and is administered jointly by the Portuguese Council of University Rectors, the Coordinating Council of Portuguese Polytechnics and the British Council.

This is a joint research programme for specific projects between Portuguese Universities and Polytechnics and British research institutions. Under the programme, applications must be submitted by both partners.

The UK partners submit their applications to our centre in Lisbon and the Portuguese partners to the Portuguese Council of University Rectors or to the Portuguese Council of Polytechnics, through their respective institutions.

Applications are submitted once a year, usually during April and May.
