Tom Service of The Guardian interviews Thomas Adès in January 2012

Forest Fringe is a not-for-profit, artist-led organisation that began in 2007. Its yearly Edinburgh Festival venue has become renowned as a space for experimentation, generosity and communitarian adventure, presenting work that is meaningful, moving and politically relevant.

The venue has won numerous awards for its unusual and adventurous programme: exciting theatrical experiments and ambitious projects that are often not yet finished.

Forest Fringe’s co-directors Andy Field and Deborah Pearson have organised with us a weekend of shows and smaller experiences. We hope this will not only provide a snapshot of contemporary experimentation in theatre taking place in the UK, but also inspire us to try out different ways of producing, presenting and seeing work.

Microfestival program
17, 18 and 19 February 2012
The audience can see three shows, as well as trying out other small adventures.

1900 - Opening

Watch Me Fall
Action Hero
50 min.
A performance about daredevils. We tell our audience that we’re going over in a barrel, hitting the ramp at 90mph and clearing 10 double-decker buses, and we’re not stopping until every last sonofabitch in the place is cheering us on.

2000 - Adventure
Short experiences for small audiences by Bryony Kimmings, Jenna Watt Mamoru Iriguchi and André e. Teodósio & Cão Solteiro.

2130 - Stories
The public will be divided between the following two shows

Like You Were Before
Deborah Pearson
50 min.
Using a video from the last day she lived in Canada six years ago, Deborah Pearson attempts (unsuccessfully) to re-insert herself into the frame. This is a show about moving forward backwards.

Hitch
Kieran Hurley
50 min.
An intimate piece of contemporary storytelling, Hitch asks questions about the meaning and purpose of political protest, the limits of personal power and the possibility of change.

2300 - Conclusion

Growing Old With You
Search Party
50 min.
A lifelong performance project which attempts to document lived experience in real time. Over the course of a lifetime they hope to create a series of works in which they, the work and the audience all grow old together.

Tuesday 14 to Sunday 19 February

Maybe If You Choreograph Me, You Will Feel Better
Tania El Khoury
30 min.
A relational piece that happens between one female performer and one male audience member. He dictates her every move. He can choose to follow a script or to improvise. Her choices, however, are less straightforward.
