“How to teach and assess speaking for FCE”

The aim of the seminar is to discuss in detail the four parts of the FCE Speaking Test and to offer participants a range of practical teaching tips as well as present an outline of the assessment procedures and provide practice in assessing candidates’ speaking performance. The seminar includes a variety of exercises that easily lend themselves to classroom use. All the exercises as well as assessment scales and other useful information are contained in the handout received by every participant. Throughout the training session, participants are encouraged to ask questions on all aspects of the FCE Speaking Test.

Length of presentation (depends on the depth of detail covered by the presenter): 75, 135 or 195 min.

“How to teach and assess writing for FCE”

The aim of the seminar is to discuss in detail the different written task types used in the two parts of the FCE Writing Paper and to offer a participants a range of practical teaching tips as well as present an outline of assessment procedures and offer practice in assessing candidates’ written performance. The seminar contains a variety of exercises that easily lend themselves to classroom use. All the exercises as well as assessment scales and other useful information are contained in the handout received by every participant. Throughout the training session, participants are encouraged to ask questions on all aspects of the FCE Writing Paper.

Length of presentation (depends on the depth of detail covered by the presenter): 75 or 135 min.

“FCE: structure, content and assessment explained”

The aim of the seminar is to discuss in detail all aspects of the FCE examination as well as to offer participants a range of exercises assessing candidates’ spoken and written performance. First, the structure of FCE is presented in detail, using sample tasks from FCE, FCE for Schools and CB FCE, which are three different formats of the same examination. Participants are then presented with assessment scales and several assessment exercises are carried out. Information is also given on how to interpret examination scores and where to look for useful examination preparation materials.  All the exercises as well as assessment scales and other useful information are contained in the handout received by every participant. Throughout the training session, participants are encouraged to ask questions on all aspects of FCE.

Length of presentation: 135 min.

“Cambridge Assessment: FCE, CAE and CPE assessment procedures explained”

The aim of the seminar is to present the assessment procedures for FCE, CAE and CPE examinations as well as to offer participants practice in assessing candidates’ performance. Special attention is paid to the assessment of writing and speaking, the two areas where a teacher’s informed judgement is the most needed in order to offer students reliable feedback prior to the examination. The progression of difficulty from FCE to CAE to CPE is clearly shown, which helps teachers to gain confidence in assessing at the different levels.  All the exercises as well as assessment scales and other useful information are contained in the handout received by every participant. Throughout the training session, participants are encouraged to ask questions on all aspects of the Cambridge exams.

Length of presentation: 105 min.
