FREE 30 HOURS ONLINE PREPARATION

British Council offers 30 hours of online self study materials for free, exclusive to all candidates who register for an IELTS exam with us.

What is Road to IELTS Online?
  • 30 hours of free online self study materials from the British Council to support your preparation.
  • Exclusively for registered candidates.
  • 3 units, each based on commonly used IELTS topics.
  • Each unit covers all four sections of the exam (reading, listening, writing and speaking).
What will the materials allow me to do?
  • Practise IELTS listening tasks under timed conditions.
  • View sample videos of speaking tests, highlighting good and less good practice.
  • Develop vocabulary and techniques for writing tasks 1 and 2.
  • Work on authentic texts for the reading test as in the real test.
  • Develop vocabulary in topic areas commonly used in the IELTS test.

Is Road to IELTS Online all I need to prepare for the exam?

Road to IELTS Online is a self study resource which we recommend you follow along with other forms of preparation (face to face courses or self study preparation books).

Preparation resources offered by the British Council:

  • How to Prepare for IELTS and IELTS Official Practice Materials (sample test) are available at the British Council in Warsaw and Kraków.
    The books are also available for reference at the British Council in Warsaw and Kraków and at all the British Libraries in Poland.
  • IELTS sample papers and some practical tips concerning IELTS test.

Please note that materials bought in the British Council offices cannot be reclaimed.

How and when do I get access to the materials?

When your payment for the IELTS test is confirmed you will be sent access codes to the materials.

To log in to the materials you should access the Road to IELTS Online portal.

There are two different types of logins and acces codes so please follow these instructions in order to access the preparation materials:

  1. if your login ID consists of 12 digits (ex. 1234-5678-9101) and it goes along with a specific password, then you log in on this Road to IELTS website.
  2. if your login ID is your email address and you received 'IELTS Reference Number' (starting PL001 or PL002)), please log in on this Road to IELTS portal


You should keep your e-mail with your login and access code until you use the materials.

You will be able to access the materials as many times as you wish until 1 week after the date of your written test.

What if I forget my personal log on details?
  1. If your login ID consists of 12 digits (for ex. 1234-5678-9012), you should access the Road to IELTS portal and request your password which will be automatically sent to you.
  2. If your login ID is your email address and 'IELTS Reference No' (starting PL001 or PL002), you should log in on Road to IELTS Online Portal
    You should keep your e-mail with the IELTS Refernce No until you use the materials.
