Let’s Get Digital – Open Day for teachers of English, Warsaw, 11 October 2009

On Sunday, 11 October, in our Warsaw office we held Let’s Get Digital Open Day for teachers of English from Warsaw and neighbour cities. Let’s Get Digital was a great opportunity to familiarise them with the latest developments in IT technologies that can be easily applied in English language teaching and testing. The BC team prepared and presented three presentations running at the same time in three time slots from 10:30 till 14:30. These were:

Boost your students motivation – KET & PET for Schools;

ActivExpression – handheld instant response device for the IWB, and

How to Get Digital in the classroom.

Moreover, one of our computer classrooms was technically prepared to show teachers the latest innovation in English language testing, i.e. computer-based testing. Each participant could sit at the computer and check how to take an exam on screen.

Teachers also had a great opportunity to meet some of the biggest EFL publishers in Poland (Egis & Express Publishing, Oxford University Press, and Pearson Longman) and familiarise themselves with their wide offer of EFL teaching and learning publications. Representatives of Egis & Express Publishing also prepared two presentations on how to use the IWB and how to create exercises for the IWB for example for FCE preparation course.

The feedback we received was very positive. Hence we would like to say a big THANK YOU to all of you who joined us at Let’s Get Digital.

For those who attended and for those who could not come finally, we prepare a  little something. Please click here to download materials from the Open Day.

Alter Ego Exhibition

We’d like to invite you to the Alter Ego exhibition. The exhibition consists of artistic works by the finalists of the Alter Ego competition including two finalists from Poland: Patryk Iwanek and Joanna Socha.

Alter Ego is one of the seven flagship projects chosen by the European Commission to celebrate the European Year of Intercultural Dialogue. Young people (14–18 years old) were encouraged to explore different and varied identities in their local communities by creating a double portrait using video, photographs, text, music, etc. Each double portrait comprises a self portrait alongside a portrait of a person from a different background and tradition.

Come and see how the theme of different cultures, traditions, backgrounds and languages was exploited by young people from around Europe.

The exhibition is accompanied by educational materials for teachers to use in the classroom – a lesson scenario prepared by Iga Kazimierczyk from the Centre for Citizenship Education (CEO).

The exhibition will tour 11 cities in Poland. From 1 till 27 November you may visit the exhibition in Katowice at the British Library of the Silesian University in Katowice Admission free.
