british council examination centre in lublin

A modest building at 2 Zuchów street dating from the fifties does not draw much attention and therefore can be easily overlooked. But if you are a fan of the English language missing the place would be a mistake. On the first floor there is a newly refurbished, spacious (over 4 m high) light interior that houses the British library. In the past there was a cinema here and our Lublin colleagues do their best to cultivate this cultural tradition. As most of them have artistic passions they seem to be particularly predisposed to the task. The co-ordinator is an amateur – photographer and one of the administrators loves classical music so much that she travels across Europe to take part in big musical events.

You can find in the library resources a large collection of contemporary British fiction as well as literature on CD, a huge selection of DVD feature films and documentaries as well as current British newspapers and magazines in a reading room.

Lublin centre also organises various lectures in English and meetings with British writers. Children can take part in Storytelling, a very unusual form of English lesson. More mature customers can find a lot of information about language courses and degrees in the UK.

As an exam centre with a long tradition Lublin has had to face numerous challenges that have had nothing in common with the arts. During one session of the listening tests, with no prior warning from the hall owner, a series of young football players started their annual play off finals in the sports hall nearby.  The candidates could easily follow the scores. Fortunately Cambridge ESOL took into account the special circumstances.

Another time the centre had to cope with a very unusual case when the candidate refused taking the speaking part of the exam, claiming that he had registered for a different exam.. It took a lot of patience and persuasion to convince the candidate  to take the exam he had registered for. Well, who said that the life of exam centre staff is all plain sailing?

And now we invite you to check for yourselves whether all this is true: www.lublin.librarynet.pl
