Since November 2011 a new British Council Examinations Centre has been based in Legnica. It is hosted by the Centrum Edukacji Fischer, one of the biggest language schools in the city, which is located in the street considered the most beautiful Polish street of 2011according to the Wasze Podróże tourist magazine plebiscite. From the centre’s windows the view spreads out onto a busy promenade and the beautiful cathedral. Close to the exam centre there is a shopping centre, an advantage for young mothers that bring their children to the courses offered by the centre.

Centrum Edukacji Fischer offers English and German courses for children from 3 years old, teenagers, adults and corporate students. Lessons are provided by creative, responsible and reliable language teachers who can, however, sometimes behave in an unpredictable manner. They can’t sit still, pull funny faces and even jump on chairs when they are trying to explain an English word and refuse to use Polish to make the task easier. So if you stand in the hallway you may often hear laughter coming out from one of the rooms. This atmosphere is clearly beneficial to students’ achievement as exemplified by the 100% pass rate of the school’s students in the language parts of the Matura exam and other language qualifications since 2006.

The staff responsible for exams administration and organisation are also very creative, with the leading role being played by Magdalena Lipinska, the centre’s coordinator. The exams administrator loves fashion and every single moment she is not at her desk, she discusses avidly with students the latest shopping hauls from a nearby mall or the soon-to-be-announced sales.
