The International Young Fashion Entrepreneur (IYFE) 2009

The British Council and the British Embassy invite young Polish creative arts entrepreneurs to take part in the International Young Fashion Entrepreneur 2009 Award. The goal of the award is to honour individual achievement and support the potential of young entrepreneurs working in the fashion sector.

Artistic talent will not be factored into the judging procedure – a finalist will be judged solely on the merit of their entrepreneurial abilities in the industry.

"Winning the Polish final of the International Young Fashion Entrepreneur Award is an honour. You cannot predict its outcomes. The knowledge that you can gain during the 2 weeks in London is the quintessence of what there is to know. It’s also the complete picture of the fashion industry starting from small 2-person enterprises, through tailors who make 200 individually crafted suits a year, to huge corporations.

The trip to the UK for the international final showed me what was missing in my work, what mistakes I had been making. It’s a treasure box of inspiration and contacts that will bear fruit for many, many years to come. My stay in London has changed me forever, for the better ;-) "

ABOUT THE COMPETITION

The International Young Fashion Entrepreneur (IYFE) Award is the last in this year’s series of the British Council competitions for young creative entrepreneurs. It is designed to champion and celebrate the importance of creative entrepreneurs working in the field of fashion.

In 2008, the finalists from the following 10 countries will compete for the Award: Brazil, India, Indonesia, Mexico, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Poland, Thailand and Tunisia. The finalists will visit the UK to undertake a common programme where they will take part in valuable networking both with key UK fashion sector partners and amongst their IYFE peers.

The IYFE competition consists of two stages: the selection process in Poland and the world finals in the UK. In the Polish stage of the selection process a professional jury will select the best young entrepreneur / manager in the Polish fashion industry who will then compete for the title of International Young Fashion Entrepreneur of the Year 2009 in the world’s finals in the UK.

The IYCE awards are unique in rewarding entrepreneurial ability. We recognise that a finalist may be active as a fashion designer, however this should be secondary to their focus as an entrepreneur in the promotion of fashion their country. Artistic talent will not be factored into the judging procedure – finalists will be judged solely on the merit of their entrepreneurial abilities in the industry.

You will find the details of the judging process in the rules of the competition.

PRIZE

The winner of the world finals will win the title of International Young Fashion Entrepreneur of the Year 2009, as well as a financial award (value approx. Ł7,500) which will be used for a professional project whose nature will be agreed with the local British Council office. The aim of the Competition is to build relations between the winning country and the UK.

Additionally, there will be a 12 day tour of the UK national fashion industry, comprising visits, meetings, seminars, events and shows. The finalists will visit London and another UK city/region to meet leaders of the fashion sector. They will also attend London Fashion Week and a master-class with Sir Paul Smith.
