British Council examination centre in Gdańsk

A stylish, little, white house surrounded by dull tower blocks accommodates the British Council Examination Centre in Gdańsk. It is so well hidden that only the most determined candidates can find it. However people from Gdańsk are determined by nature so they have no problems with getting to the centre. In addition the neighbourhood is quite honourable as our former president, Mr Lech Wałęsa lives nearby.

The white house is owned by the British Centre Studium, a part of Gdańsk University. The Studium runs FCE, CAE & CPE preparatory classes and conversation groups for all those interested. It also offers various courses for English teachers to help them develop their language competences: for example, a free postgraduate course for school teachers wishing to teach English as a second subject

The Gdańsk Exam Coordinator, Grażyna Zawisza, called by all friends Ruda (i.e. Ginger), is a dedicated cat lover who fills her home with abandoned animals. Her flat is currently home to ten cats and a few fish in an aquarium. This aquarium is like a TV for the cats – they can watch it for hours. Ruda is also an excellent photographer. Her photos can be found in calendars and other artistic productions.
The Gdańsk centre has more gifted people. One of their teachers and oral examiners is a fan of the Beatles’ music. He set up a band called Obsession, which obsessively sings the groups songs.
These artistic passions do not prevent the Gdańsk Centre Staff from being professional and vigilant. Once, during a written session they spotted a candidate who showed symptoms of chorea. Invigilators were about to call for an ambulance. However, upon closer inspection it turned out to be simply a very sophisticated form of copying.

And now we invite you to check for yourselves whether all this is true: http://julia.univ.gda.pl/~brcstud/
