PET candidate (Threshold User level B1) can:
Reading
- understand street signs and public notices as well as product packaging;
- read simple forms, posters and brochures;
- handle info from tourist guides;
- read simple articles in newspapers and magazines
- understand the general meaning of non-routine letters
Listening
- understand weather forecasts;
- understand announcements made at railway stations and airports as well as traffic information given on the radio.
- understand instructions given by police or customs officials and public announcements made at sporting events or pop concerts
Speaking
- receive and pass on routine phone messages.
- offer advice to clients within own job area on simple matters;
- state requirements within their own job area;
- take part in a discussion which involves the exchange of factual information or receiving instructions;
Writing
- make reasonably accurate notes on familiar or predictable matters
- write simple letters in a standard form (e.g. thank-you letters)
