YOUNG LEARNERS COURSES
(12-17 YEAR-OLDS)

...

The British Council Poland is committed to providing all our students with a structured English language learning career that will give each child the opportunity to reach their full potential in a rewarding, stimulating and rich environment.

All British Council teachers are experienced in Teaching English as a Foreign Language to young children, teenagers and young adults. They are all professionally qualified graduates, holding the Cambridge Certificate in Teaching English as a Foreign Language (CELTA). In addition, most have specialist teaching qualifications, such as the Diploma (DELTA) and the Certificate in Teaching English to Young Learners (CELTYL). For more information on our teachers' qualifications, please visit the Cambridge web-site.

WHAT ARE BRITISH COUNCIL COURSES LIKE?

Teens (12 - 14 yrs)

Your child will be listening to and singing songs, doing surveys, reading and writing stories, playing grammar and vocabulary games, watching videos, creating posters and speaking about their favourite topics. Teen courses include computer work for your child to practise language and develop independent skills which will enable them to continue their learning outside the classroom. A major component of Teen courses is the video project, which is not only highly motivating for students, but also a very effective way of learning.

Young Adults (15 - 17 yrs)

Young Adults learn best when they are motivated and challenged. Our aim is to provide a structured and stimulating approach which helps them to see that English has a real purpose for communication.

Your son/daughter will follow a structured learning path with our specially designed syllabuses. The teacher will exploit the course book, project work based on graded readers and other resources to provide a balance of carefully planned tasks and activities.

Assessment is an integral part of the course structure. Teachers gather and record information throughout the course from a variety of sources, including class work, homework, language quizzes, informal and formal tests and observation.

CAN MY CHILD TAKE AN EXAM IN ENGLISH?

We regularly offer our Young Learners the opportunity to take internationally recognised exams from Cambridge ESOL. For Primaries and Teens, we recommend the Cambridge Young Learner Tests (Starters, Movers, Flyers) which is a series of tests for 7 to 12 year-olds. They are an enjoyable and highly motivating way of monitoring progress.

For young adults, we offer the Cambridge ESOL exams (FCE, CAE and CPE), and provide support for students working towards these exams. We find that studying for such an exam is motivating, and can, in the case of the higher exams, be used as proof of level for job applications and entrance into universities in different countries around the world. For more information about these exams, please contact our Exams Department: exams@britishcouncil.pl
