Access English – Support for Policymakers

Through research, UK expertise, policy dialogues and discussion, we aim to raise awareness among policy makers to help them make informed decisions on the way they work.

Regional seminars are held annually to bring forward  issues in English language teaching (ELT). Ministry officials, local and UK ELT specialists are invited to these seminars to give their insights into these issues and participate in discussions. These seminars also provide good networking opportunities among the participants.

Primary Innovations Regional Seminar 2008

In 2007 we commissioned De La Salle University to conduct two researches about English language teaching in the Philippines. It investigated specific country trends affecting the future of English language education including methodologies on ELT across the  country. The research also indentified training practices to improve the training of primary teachers.

The first research looked at opportunities to introduce Content and Language Integrated Learning or CLIL in the teaching of English as a second language. The second research is about developing an English language corpus that other researchers can use. Results of the researches were presented in the Primary Innovations Regional Seminar in Bangkok, Thailand from 5 – 6 March 2008.
