
The programme is designed for students who are seeking internships with an international organisation. The programme benefits the British Council staff and the students by providing students with valuable educational and work experience in an international cultural organisation and the line managers by assisting them to accomplish their tasks.
The purpose of the Internship Programme is to offer students the challenge of working in an international organisation, help them gain / improve skills required for future employment and at the same time for British Council to profit by their assistance. There is no compensation and benefits attached to this programme and any future employment rights. This is open to all students and provides the opportunity to work for a short period (not more than two months) in the British Council to gain experience in various areas of work of a cultural organisation.

Minimum Selection Criteria: |
- Students who are currently enrolled in a college, university or comparable recognised educational institution.
- Students must be 18 years of age at the time of appointment.
- Letter from the educational institution where the student is enrolled stating the required number of hours that the student needs to complete.
- Reference letter from the student’s professor / teacher attesting to his/her good academic standing and moral character.
- Completely filled-out application form. Submission of incomplete application form, resume or CV will not be considered.
Interns can be assigned duties that may include research, report writing, communication with suppliers / vendors, information systems, administrative tasks, verification and review of financial data.
- Download and complete the application form. Indicate the internship post being applied to based on the list of available vacant posts posted.
- Secure letter from the educational institution stating the required number of hours that needs to be completed and letter of reference.
- Submit all documents in Steps 1 and 2 above to hr@britishcouncil.org.ph indicating the internship position applying to. For applicants without access to the internet, application forms are available at the British Council office located at 10F Taipan Place F. Ortigas Jr. Road, Ortigas Centre, Pasig City.
- Read and understand the 'Responsibilities of the Intern' document.
- Be available for interview if / when called.

- Internship programme is advertised on the British Council Philippines website regularly.
- Applications received by HR will either be sent to all team leaders, or to a single team leader should the applicant request an internship in a specific department.
- All recruitment of interns should be dealt with by applying EO&D policy. Selection is managed by the interested department in coordination with HR.
- An intern is allowed to start only when the British Council and the intern have signed an agreement in which the basic terms of reference are specified and agreed. Such an agreement needs to be signed by the Country Director and both parties shall abide by the agreement.
- Terms of reference will vary depending on the assignment available and participants’ objectives and requirements.
- The agreement is not a contract of employment. The intern is not an employee of British Council Philippines Branch Office and is not regarded as an internal candidate when applying for a post in the British Council.
- British Council Philippines Branch Office shall not under any circumstances be liable for any accidents, illnesses, losses of personal property or damage to third parties that occur during the term of the internship agreement.
- The opportunity to become an intern is available to those who meet all of the essential criteria listed below:
a. Minimum age of 18 years; b. Currently a student; c. Recommendation letter from the university / school on the requirement for internship; and d. Relevant reference (personal, academic or professional)
- The period of internship would normally last from two to six weeks.
- Each intern in a department/section will have one assigned line-manager.
- All costs related to the internship will be covered by the intern or his/her sponsoring institution.

Responsibilities of the British Council |
- To offer professional experience through a properly drafted programme providing wide exposure to the relevant area(s) of the British Council. Such programme will be prepared by the designated line manager and be ready on the date of the commencement.
- To provide an induction programme into the general work of the British Council (Code of Conduct, Health and Safety) to be prepared by HR and the assigned line manager.
- To ensure support from an assigned line manager for the duration of the internship in order to achieve maximum benefits and impact. The line manager is responsible for providing feedback both to the intern and his/her institution.
- To award a certificate signed by the Country Director at the end of the programme to confirm the internship that has been undertaken.

Responsibilities of the Institution – University/College |
- To provide a reference letter/supporting documentation for the intern to be able to apply for the programme.
- To act as guarantor.

CURRENT INTERNSHIP OPENINGS |
Skills and educational background should be appropriate to any openings that the interns will apply to. Applicants must have strong Tagalog or English communication skills and can work with minimum supervision.
Finance Intern (1):
To assist the Finance Officer in verifying payments to vendors and taxes withheld on payments, indicating the appropriate tax base and tax rate on vendors’ invoices based on services or goods provided and preparing journal entries on selected transactions. Maintain office files and perform other administrative services and other related duties as may be assigned by the Finance Officer.
Customer Services Intern (1):
To assist in answering customer enquiries at the Front Office, maintaining the IELTS Resource Centre (IRC), administering the IRC survey, conducting the internal Mystery Shopping survey exercise, maintaining customer service files and performing other administrative services and other related duties as may be assigned by the Customer Services Officer / Assistant.
Administrative Intern (1):
To assist the Administrative Officer in updating the Approved Suppliers’ List by contacting suppliers and collating quotations for comparison purposes based on the accreditation matrix, updating the Business Continuity Plan emergency contact details and emergency file documents including exit maps and contacts card, executing the activities for Environment Framework Tool and Diversity Assessment Framework action plans. Maintain office files and perform other administrative services and other related duties as may be assigned by the Administrative Officer.
IT and Digital Intern (1):
To assist the Systems Manager in troubleshooting PCs and updating social media sites. Maintain office files and perform other administrative services and other related duties as may be assigned by the Systems Manager. Applicants should have basic knowledge of Information Technology and web development. Knowledge in using social media is a must.
Programmes Intern (2):
Education
To assist the Programme Officer in liaising with suppliers, mailing of invitations/giveaways and marketing of events through social media. Support the Programmes Team at events i.e. registration, workshop set-up and perform other programme related duties deemed necessary by the Programme Officer or Manager.
Arts and Society
To assist the Programme Officer in liaising with suppliers for Programmes events. Update the media list and consolidate information for the media monitoring captures in 2012. Circulate and distribute press releases and other promotional materials for programmes activity. Support the Programmes Team at events i.e. registration, workshop set-up and perform other programme related duties deemed necessary by the Programme Officer or Manager.
Examinations Intern (1):
To assist the Examinations Services Manager in creating a database for examiners, agents and workshop participants feedback. Maintain exams stationery inventory. Assist the test supervisors in pre and post test administrative tasks- scheduling candidates for interviews, preparation of exam results, etc. Support the marketing team in the implementation of promotional activities and events.
