For many in the education sector, integrating learning technologies in the classroom is no longer a question of whether or not to do it but rather how soon can schools start using them. The use of technology for the millions of learners entrusted to our public education system is much needed. They are growing up and living with technology around them and yet most of the schools are not ready to use technology in the classrooms. Lack of computers, internet access, and trained teachers are the often cited reasons why ICT in education has not taken place.
To address this, the Department of Education (Deped) has embarked on a massive project to bring our students closer to 21st century learning. Guided by the ICT4E Strategic Plan, Deped is aiming to provide every learner quality education, anytime, anywhere. As part of this plan, the President has instructed Secretary Jesli Lapus to connect all public high schools to the internet by the end of 2009.
