The websites below are all for commercial publishers, but they all have free online resources and features such as interviews, extracts, reviews, and competitions. You and your child might like to look at some of these together. Some of the sites offer advice to parents.

Scholastic have a great website with an area for children called the Zone, with book news, competitions, information about authors, and competitions.
