The Higher Education Links Programme is a partnership between the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan and British Council Pakistan. The purpose of the programme is to enhance the research and training capacity of higher education institutes, which will contribute towards the institutional capacity building of the higher education sector in Pakistan.
The programme is open to public and private colleges and universities recognised by the Higher Education Commission, Pakistan. UK institutions with education as their core function either at the undergraduate or the postgraduate level can also join the programme. These links will generally be between departments rather than individuals or institutions, but may involve more than one partner at each end.
Link activities will lead to:
- The development of research and training capacity of the higher education institutions in Pakistan
- Improved teaching methodologies
- Improved management systems within the departments
- Course and curriculum development
- Faculty development
Higher Education Commission (HEC) of the Government of Pakistan has been set up to facilitate the development of the universities of Pakistan to be world-class centres of education, research and development. Its goal is to mobilise financial, technical, human and social resources for enhancing the quality of educational institutions, and for facilitating the reform process initiated within these institutions. The mandate of the HEC encompasses all degree granting universities and institutions, public and private, including degree-granting colleges.
