Featuring British Films and Literature

We bring contemporary and innovative work from the UK to audiences in Pakistan by showcasing the best of British film and literature.

Scriptnet’s X-Changes screenwriting programme
The  British Council, in collaboration ScriptnetUK, organised a ceremony to launch the ‘X-Changes: Media Training workshop for Women in Pakistan’ on 16 October 2006. Between October and December 2006, Scriptnet and British Council Lahore hosted a series of three workshops aimed at teaching screenwriting skills to women writers with the project aim of producing short Pakistani screen dramas for an international audience. The free of cost workshops were led by tutors from UK film schools and local professionals.
J. K. Rowling names 6th Harry Potter book
The sixth Harry Potter book is to be called Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince. After the latest in a long line of hoax titles came out on the same day she revealed the real title, she said ’super-bright fans’ would know her title was genuine because it was once considered as an alternative title for Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.
THE EVOLVING I BELONG STORY CHAIN

The story chain that connects six countries and many young people!

The main aim of the project is to provide educational and creative opportunities for young people through innovative use of new technology and new media pioneering art form collaborations.

What’s happened so far:
'I Belong’ story chain project has completed its first phase in Pakistan and is now on its way to Malaysia from where it goes to Egypt, France, Iraq and the UK.

Five students were selected from across Pakistan to participate. Renowned writer Kamila Shamsie was the tutor who trained the participants in writing their stories by conducting a one-week Creative Writing workshop. The students have written their stories, which will shortly be available on the under construction 'I Belong' website http://ibelong.britishcouncil.org in both English and Urdu languages.

'I Belong’ has encouraged intercultural dialogue between young people of diverse backgrounds encouraging them to explore how people their ages in other countries portray themselves creatively and to appreciate similar and different approaches to the title theme.

What’s next:
The stories are being compiled in the form of a booklet, which will be launched in Lahore, Karachi and Islamabad. To make it even more interesting, we have decided to develop a film based on the story chain. The film is to be produced in Pakistan.

For all those filmmakers who would like to be a part of this venture and have ideas, we welcome your thoughts.
