British Council New Zealand's aim is to create extraordinary projects to show the best of contemporary UK culture to New Zealanders.

In keeping with British Council Equal Opportunity and Diversity Policy, our programmes and opportunities are open to emerging leaders of all ages, genders, ethnicities and religious groups.

Our Work
British Council New Zealand connects aspirational young New Zealanders with contemporary UK, across the spheres of arts, creative industries, science and education. We work with local and international partners to showcase excellence, innovation and creativity.

Seeking funding? Please read this first:

The British Council seeks to create trust and engagement for Britain by working with emerging leaders around the world. We are not a “funding” agency as such – and for those seeking funding, we urge you to consider appropriate funding bodies.

We work in partnership with like-minded organisations, usually through large-scale regional or global projects. This entails engaging with partners from concept stage, through to designing projects to meet our mutual objectives, and implementation. We usually work about nine months to a year in advance, helping to choose speakers, create itineraries and workshops and so on.

In Aotearoa/NZ we focus particularly on the benefits of ethnic diversity, and we are most interested in developing projects which showcase cutting edge, modern, multicultural and intercultural Britain.

We're interested in creating interesting, new projects that meet the following criteria:

  • Strong UK focus
  • Opportunity for British Council to partner in the development
  • Strong media or audience reach.

Please be aware, however, that we work on a two-year planning cycle, and our budgets are often committed far in advance.

Opportunities
British Council administers a range of awards and professional development opportunities. We do not give grants or provide ad hoc funding for UK study.
