INTERCULTURAL NAVIGATORS

APPLICATIONS NOW CLOSED, NORWEGIAN NAVIGATORS RECRUITED

Intercultural Navigators seeks to bring together people from across Europe with a desire to make positive contribution to society. We are looking for people who want to learn, are open-minded, curious, and willing to share their own experiences and at the same time actively pursue new perspectives.

In collaboration with leading experts from across Europe and Africa the British Council has developed an innovative intercultural leadership programme to help people successfully engage in issues of concern, both at a local and international level. The programme will also provide you with a unique opportunity to grow personally and professionally.

The British Council is searching for a total of 450 young Europeans who can help pave the way towards more inclusive and diverse societies and become part of an international network of people who wish to make a difference. The programme is currently running in 16 European countries with 30 – 70 participants from each country. In Norway we will recruit 30 Intercultural Navigators.

WHAT’S IN IT FOR YOU?

The skills that will be introduced during the Intercultural Navigators programme consist of a wide variety of leadership skills, tools and techniques. Some of them include:

Appreciative Inquiry,
Questioning,
Hearing and Listening,
Valuing and Working with Difference,
Systems Thinking,
Conflict Management,
Reframing,
Communication, and much more.

These skills will be applied and practised in a number of different contexts within the participants’ sphere of life or influence. The toolkit of skills that will be acquired by the Intercultural Navigators can be used in a number of capacities and are transferrable skills that can easily be adapted.

Upon successful completion of the programme Navigators will have the opportunity to apply to take part in international attachment programmes in public and non-governmental institutions and the business sector. The British Council and its international partners will also encourage you to develop your own initiatives and provide guidance and support for the best projects.

The programme is based on a 12 day training programme that will be delivered between January - June 2009. All modules will take place in Oslo area (except the International Module). Participants will additionally be expected to work between modules e.g. twinning exercise, develop project ideas etc.
