Name: Helge Martin Lambrigtsen
Course: BSc (Hons) Physiotherapy
Status: 2nd year
Place of study: Salford University
Hi.
I'm Helge Lambrigtsen from Sandnes. I'm halfway through my Bachelor Physiotherapy degree that I started in 2004. Salford University is just outside Manchester in the west of England. Manchester has proven to me regarding rain to be the English equivalent of Bergen! I'm half English which has helped me with adapting to the English culture and language quickly, but I recommend studying in Salford and England to anyone who is thinking of it.
Why did you choose to study in the UK?
I was trying to get into Physiotherapy in Norway when I applied, merely just for fun, to several English universities. But when I was accepted the thought of studying in England was intriguing and by the opportunity of studying in a big city and getting an international degree I jumped at the chance and I have never regretted it.
Why did you choose to study at Salford?
I was accepted and chose Salford University mostly because I knew it was in Manchester and heard only positive things about the course and the city. The University has been very supportive to help me finding my feet in Salford and course work.
What is university life like?
The student union offers a diversity of different clubs and societies. Including a foreign society, who help foreigners settling in at Salford, arranging trips around the country and nights out. Outside of Salford Uni you can find anything you want in Manchester. English universities have many international students compared to Norwegians so living in by halls you quickly become friends with people from around the world. It's also not difficult to find other norweigians studying here.
What is your university/department like?
The Health & Social Care faculty has just moved into a new state of the art building and with lecturers knownfor their research, clinical specialists and several authors I haven't been less than impressed! The course has hospital placements each year to put your theory into practice. this has been very beneficial. The teaching method varies through lectures, group work, presentations and assignments. The course work itself is very demanding, but there is always time to hit the pubs in the evening.
What is Manchester like?
Manchester is a modern buzzing metropolis with loads of diversity. Coming from a small town of 60.000 I thought it might be intimidating, but the big city life has so much more to offer and I love it! After London Manchester is the biggest scene for concerts and shows, there are premier league matches every weekend and I don't know how many night clubs and pubs.
What do you hope to do after graduation?
With this degree from England I am hoping for a job opportunity here through the NHS as a rotational physiotherapist or try my luck in Australia for a couple years before I head back to Norway.
