European Young Lawyers

Are you a young lawyer who wants to broaden your knowledge of UK law? The European Young Lawyers programme could be for you.

The European Young Lawyers Scheme has been running for over thirty years in England and Scotland. Under the scheme, young legal practitioners from Europe familiarize themselves with English common law and the Scottish legal system. They are also able to study the principles of British commercial law and legal practice and how these elements interact with European law.

The course takes place from January to July in London and Edinburgh and it provides a unique opportunity to learn about the legal systems in Britain. Participants undertake an intensive course of study which is followed by a professional attachment to a firm of solicitors, and to barristers' chambers in London or with an advocate in Scotland. These attachments give participants the scope to develop their own particular legal interests.

The subsequent network which the participants form is an integral part of the scheme. The European Lawyers Association - now some 500 members strong - provides a firm basis for maintaining and strengthening international legal contacts throughout a career.

Applications are now being closed for the 2006 programme. Watch this space for the 2007 programme.
