What is Global Xchange?
It's a partnership programme managed and delivered by the British Council and Voluntary Service Overseas (VSO), alongside our Northern Ireland colleagues at the Newry Volunteer Centre and the Confederation of Community Groups.  Our joint aim is to tackle poverty and inequality through a programme of international volunteer exchange.  In 2008 Global Xchange will take place in Northern Ireland and Kenya.   More .....

How does it work?
You will:
Be part of a team of 18 people: 9 from Ireland and the UK and 9 from Kenya
Live and work for 3 months in Newry in Northern Ireland
Be paired up with a counterpart close in age from Kenya
Live in pairs with a host family
At the end of the first 3 months in Newry, the whole programme moves to Mombassa for the final 3 months of the programme

Who can take part?
You don't need formal experience or qualifications to apply.  However applicants must be:

Aged 18-25
Have an EU Passport and be living in Ireland or Northern Ireland for at least one year
Available to travel between March and September 2008
Willing to provide us with two written references

What support is provided?
There are NO COSTS ATTACHED to doing Global Xchange.  However we do ask successful applicants to each raise 1,000 Euro through fundraising amongst friends and family.  Global Xchange pays:

Flights
Accommodation and Food
A local salary to cover daily needs
Vaccinations/anti-malarials
Training
Insurance
