Insurance Guidelines

INSURANCE

All BEI students must source and purchase their own personal and medical insurance before they depart for the US. You must provide the BEI team with a copy of this before departing and bring at least one copy of your insurance policy to America as your College will require a copy also.

BEI recommend that you purchase a “Study Abroad” or “Gap Year” Insurance Policy but we are unable to recommend one particular insurance provider.

It is important that whatever policy you purchase will provide cover for the following events:

•Cancellation
•Missed Departure,
•Travel Delay,
•Luggage and Personal Money
•Luggage Delay,
•Loss of Passport
•Trip Interruption (ie. due to death in the family)
•Curtailment and Hospital Benefit
•Medical Expenses & Repatriation of mortal remains in the event of death
•Dental Treatment
•Personal Accident
•Personal Liability
•If you intend to take part in any Winter/Extreme Sports, please add this cover to your policy.

You should be fully informed on all aspects of the policy that you choose to purchase.  We suggest you ask questions to ensure you fully understand the following:

•Will this policy continue to provide cover over the holidays and whilst campus is closed?
•Is this a multi-trip policy? (ie. Can I make trips home throughout the year?)
•Is 24 hour worldwide assistance available?
•Will I be issued with an international assistance card?
•What happens if I need to make a claim?
•Does the insurance provider have a billing agent address / phone number in the US?
•Is there an excess or deductible amount that I will have to pay if I need to use this insurance?
•How long will it take to be re-imbursed for any expenses that I pay upfront?

We would expect that a fully comprehensive insurance policy covering you for travel and medical care, throughout the year in the US, including multiple trips home will cost around £200 - £300.

We would also suggest that every student familiarise themselves with the procedures to follow should they have to make a claim.

All this information will be covered during inductions in greater detail.
