We are supporting governance activities in Nigeria to develop principles and practices of good government for the achievement of poverty reduction and the realisation of the rights of marginalised people in Nigeria.
At the British Council, under the Women in Leadership programme, we have been working towards the following objectives which are to:
- To enhance women’s political participation.
- To put young women in contact with established women leaders from Nigerian and the UK and foster the development of partnerships with women in different fields and across different age groups.
- To provide a forum for women to learn from the experiences of established and effective women leaders in the public sector.
- To equip women with cutting edge skills for achieving political goals using real life case studies.
- To encourage politically conscious women to take a more active role in the decision-making processes within the public sector.
- To create a network of women who are committed to improving the democratic process in the Nigerian polity.
We have had a long history in the area of promoting women’s political participation by working in partnership with women from different sectors to build capacity, promote networks and further women’s leadership and professional skills.
