Cambridge GCE O levels, A levels and IGCSE

These qualifications form the basic route to higher and professional studies in the United Kingdom by international students, and it is recognised by employers and educational institutions in many countries.

O – Levels

Candidates may enter the exam at any age provided they can meet the requirements of the syllabuses. While it is not compulsory to do O-levels for a candidate with other secondary qualifications, it is important to keep in mind that some UK universities ask for a specific number of O-level subjects. Normally, O-levels in five subjects qualify a student to enter for A-levels.

IGCSE (International General Certificate of Secondary Education)

This is equivalent to O level UK GCEs but is more about the application of knowledge rather than recalling information taught.

A-levels

These are normally taken two years after O-levels and pave the way for entrance into undergraduate studies in the UK, To apply for entrance to an undergraduate degree, a minimum of three A-level subjects is required. However, it is important to keep in mind that individual entrance requirements of universities or vocational institutions may vary.

AS-level

The Advanced Subsidiary level has syllabuses which can be covered in approximately half the study time of an A-level. For university entrance purposes, two AS-levels are usually equivalent to one A-level.

The subjects you choose to take will depend on your career plans the requirements of the university or college you intend to apply for and your own strengths and interests. Talk to your teachers and ask for advice from our Education Information Service.

The examinations vary from one subject to another and may involve essay, multiple choice and practical assessment. Many subjects can also be studied as modular courses with continuous assessment.

Copies of syllabuses can be purchased through us
Five years of full-time secondary education is normally expected before taking O-levels, with a further one year for AS-levels or two years for A-levels. It is essential to prepare for all these exams under the guidance of an experienced tutor, whether privately, by distance learning or at school or college.
There are examination sessions in May/June and November for Cambridge. You will be given the exact dates and times of the examinations approximately one month before they take place.
