Sheila B. Lalwani, journalist and lecturer at the Merrill School of Journalism at the University of Maryland, is currently the Special Advisor to the Publisher at Foreign Policy magazine. Beginning her journalism career when she was 15, she has reported in the U.S. and internationally on matters pertaining to human rights, immigration and social policy.
She continues to explore, in professional and academic spheres, the evolving nature of religion, policy and international affairs. She recently served as Research Fellow for the Prince Alwaleed bin Talal Center for Muslim-Christian Understanding at Georgetown University, where she co-published works on Muslims in North America, Europe and Asia with Dr. John Esposito. She also conducted training seminars for journalists and lectured on Islam and religion in the mass media at universities in Germany, Morocco, Poland and Malaysia.
A former Fulbright Scholar, she is a graduate of the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University and speaks Arabic, Hindi and German.
