Jytte Klausen is the Lawrence A. Wien Professor of International Cooperation at Brandeis University and an Affiliate at the Center for European Studies at Harvard University. In 2007, she received a Carnegie Scholars’ Award for research on the political integration of Muslim communities in Europe.

Dr. Klausen is the author of The Cartoons That Shook the World (Yale University Press 2009), a book about the Danish cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad and the worldwide protests that followed their publication. An earlier book was based on interviews with Muslim members of European parliaments and metropolitan city councils and dealt with the political orientation of Muslims in western countries The Islamic Challenge: Politics and Religion in Western Europe (Oxford University Press pb. 2007, German and Turkish translations).

She has published a number of academic articles and media pieces on various aspects of the Muslim experience in contemporary Europe.

Dr. Klausen’s current research is on jihadist extremism and recruitment to terrorism in Europe and North America.
