Senior Practice Consultant and Senior Analyst for the Abu Dhabi Gallup Center & the Gallup Center for Muslim Studies; Director of the VC Group

Dr. H.A. Hellyer is Senior Practice Consultant and Senior Analyst for the Abu Dhabi Gallup Center and the Gallup Center for Muslim Studies, which he joined after a prolific career at the University of Warwick. Dr. Hellyer was previously a Fellow at the Center for Middle East Policy at the Brookings Institution and was nominated as Deputy Convenor of the UK government's Home Office working group in the aftermath of the London bombings on July 7, 2005. He was also appointed Economic and Social Research Council Placement Fellow at the British Foreign and Commonwealth Office.

After a decade of academic research at the University of Warwick, where he received his PhD and was appointed as Senior Research Fellow (the research equivalent of Associate Professor), Dr. Hellyer joined Gallup with an extensive background in several geographic regions, as well as expertise in Muslim world-West relations, political Islamism, and Arab politics. He also engages different sectors to further Gallup's different management consultancy practices worldwide.

Dr. Hellyer is regularly invited to speak to state institutions and forums in various countries, including the Department for Communities and Local Government and the House of Commons in the UK, the Department of Homeland Security and the State Department in the US, and the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe. Dr. Hellyer served as Senior Academic Advisor at Soliya, a United Nations Alliance of Civilizations implementation organization focused on relations between Western and Muslim societies. A contributor to Oxford Analytica, he has also served as a consultant for various British Council and Gallup Poll initiatives in Europe, North America and the Middle East. As founder of the VC Group, Dr. Hellyer created a network of specialists dedicated to improving engagement between the Muslim world and the West.

He has served as a visiting professor at the American University in Cairo and at the Universiti Teknologi Malaysia. He is also a member of the British Society for Middle Eastern Studies (UK), the Royal United Services Institute (UK and Qatar), and the Institute for Social Policy and Understanding (US). Dr. Hellyer is a United Nations Alliance of Civilizations Global Expert, a former member of the Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies at the University of Oxford, and a member of the International Institute of Strategic Studies of London, Singapore, Bahrain, and Washington, D.C.

Dr. Hellyer has written several books and monographs, including Muslims of Europe: The "Other" Europeans (Edinburgh University Press, 2010) and Engagement With the Muslim Community and Counter-Terrorism (Brookings Institution Press, 2007). He has contributed more than 25 book chapters and journal articles to various international presses and publishers, including the recently published "The Chance for Change in the Arab World" in International Affairs, a journal by Chatham House. He has authored several hundred op-eds and media submissions for publications including The Huffington Post, Reuters, The Washington Post, Foreign Policy, The New York Times, Prospect, cafebabel.com, Jurist, New Statesman, The Guardian, The Daily Beast, Middle East Online, The National, Gulf News, Khaleej Times, The Daily News Egypt, Today's Zaman, and The Straits Times.
