Sharon Memis

Director, British Council USA

Sharon Memis, Director British Council USA is based in Washington, DC where she heads the British Council’s North America team, and also serves as a member of the British Council’s Americas Region strategic management team. As Director British Council USA, Sharon has led a major change program, ensuring the British Council’s international projects in Arts, Education and Society are well established in the United States. Sharon also serves on the board of the recently established 501(c)3, not-for-profit, Friends of the British Council.

As Director British Council USA, Sharon has successfully argued for further investment from the British Council in the United States and, as a result, the organisation has established offices in New York and expanded its presence in Los Angeles. Given the intense interest in the United States in the British Council ‘model’, Sharon is frequently invited to speak about the British Council’s approach to Cultural Relations and impact evaluation and has published several articles on the subject.
