Dr. Sara Silvestri

Senior Lecturer in International Politics, City University of London
Sara Silvestri is Senior Lecturer in International Politics at City University London and Research Associate with Cambridge University, where she did her PhD and post-doc. previously, she held a Marie Curie Fellowship in Paris and studied and worked in Rome and Brussels.
Her interdisciplinary research concerns Muslim identity politics, Islamist networks, the role of religion in secular institutions, intercultural relations, migration, security and counterterrorism.
Sara is the first to have compared European policies towards Islam and Muslim lobbies in Brussels; her book Europe’s Muslim Women: beyond the burqa controversy (Hurst, forthcoming) is based on fieldwork in 5 countries. Dr Silvestri had directed the EPC’s programme "Muslims in Europe" (Brussels), has been a consultant to the British Council and an Associate Fellow with Chatham House.
Sara is a member of the AoC’s "Global Experts" and serves as advisor to the Anna Lindh Foundation for which she contributed to the first opinion poll of the Euro Mediterranean region.
