Our areas of work

Government and public sector capacity and efficiency

Typically we are concerned with the development of capacity of government at central, regional or local levels and public sector organisations to operate effectively and to deliver better services to citizens.

Legal sector

Our work covers many different aspects of the legal sector including judicial training, the operation of courts, the police, prisons and probation services.

Civil society

We work with civil society organisations in a number of ways. To enhance their capacity to play a part in democratic processes in terms of lobbying and policy dialogue representing citizens’ interests.

Economic growth and regeneration

We cover many aspects such as regional development, enhancing the regulatory and business environment, inward investment, small enterprise development and the development of business related skills.

Equalities and rights

We work in the areas of gender and the development of women’s rights but also more broadly in projects which are concerned with equality issues.

DFID Community Linking Programme

The DFID Community Linking Programme (DCLP) is an exciting new programme funded by the Department for International Development and managed by the British Council. It supports linking between community groups in the UK and in developing countries.
