Big Dance 2012
Big Dance is the world’s largest dance programme. Founded in 2006 by the Mayor of London in partnership with Arts Council
The Big Dance is the world’s biggest dance event, which will include an attempt at a new world record.
The Schools Pledge is in two parts:
o Schools can learn the special Big Dance choreography and then perform their dance at the same time as thousands of others around the world. This huge global dance event takes place on 18 May 2012 (the day the Olympic torch arrives in the UK). Participating schools will be part of the attempt at a new world record for the largest dance routine – multi-venue.
o Schools are also encouraged to undertake an additional 20 minutes of dance a day during the Big Dance week which runs from 7-18 May 2012. The Big Dance Schools Pledge is a fantastic and fun opportunity for young people of all ages to learn a new dance inspired by the Olympics.
Wayne McGregor CBE, Artistic Director of Wayne McGregor from Random
Dance and Resident Choreographer at the Royal Ballet, has created the 5 minute choreography for the world record attempt and it is available now for schools to start learning. Everyone can take up the challenge and learn the dance, or build dance into their day at school.
Big Dance is part of the Cultural Olympiad and will feature in the London 2012 Festival.
Warm Up for the Games
