Environmental strategy

The British Council’s environmental policy (pdf 24kb) shows our commitment to reducing our impact on the environment.

We are reducing this impact by using internationally recognised environmental management tools, which are adapted and managed to meet our unique structure.

In the UK we are:

  • implementing an Environmental Management System (EMS) at our three largest UK offices: Spring Gardens, Bridgewater House and Telford Way
  • managing the EMS to the international standard IS0 14001.

Overseas we have:

  • started implementing the  Environmental Framework Tool (EFT) for our overseas network. The EMT provides a structured framework and environmental management guidance to the overseas network with an overall aim to manage and reduce our global environmental impact

The environmental strategy is managed by a steering group that agrees targets and objectives and influences change within the organisation to reduce our holistic impacts. The steering group is chaired by David Viner, Head Climate Change.

The British Council's Climate Change programme is working to strengthen networks and relationships among decision makers, influencers and future leaders worldwide to tackle climate change.
