Has Iraq turned a corner?

After decades of conflict and the trauma of occupation, Iraq faces an uncertain future. However, as UK combat operations end in Iraq and British troops return home are there signs of optimism that Iraq may be moving away from its recent ordeals?
On 18 May the British Council hosted a panel discussion ‘Has Iraq turned a corner?’ as part of the Reel Iraq Festival, celebrating Iraqi cinema, music and culture.
Panellists included Maysoon Al Damluji, former Iraqi Deputy Minister of Culture, Khalil Al Mosawi, journalist and founder and Chair of Board of Directors of Iraq’s Radio Al Nas, Kim Sengupta, The Independent’s Iraq-embedded Defence Correspondent, and Saad Eskander, Director of the National Library of Iraq.
