Rebecca Walton, Director Partnerships and Business Development
Rebecca Walton is an experienced professional in the field of cultural relations and education. She is educated to Masters level in the Economics of Education for Development and has worked internationally throughout her career.
Rebecca trained initially as a teacher, and taught in the Isle of Man and at the Anglo-American School in Moscow for some years.
She joined the British Council in 1985, and has worked in many different cultural environments. She was a Country Director in Jordan, an operation with over 70 staff and a contract turnover of nearly £4 million. Previous to that she was Director Education and, before that, Assistant Representative Norway. She has also worked extensively in Pakistan and Russia primarily in education reform.
At the British Council’s London headquarters Rebecca was Director of Corporate Affairs from 2005-2008 and became Director of Arts in 2008. In this role she led a team of specialists drawn from all art forms. Together they renewed the role of the arts at the heart of the British Council’s work in cultural relations and worked to strengthen the range of productive partnerships the British Council has with UK arts and cultural organisations and national and international cultural agencies. The British Council’s arts programme is now focused on the creation of new audiences globally for UK arts work and on widening the opportunities for the UK’s creative sector globally.
Rebecca was appointed to a new role on the Executive Board as Director Partnerships and Business Development April 2011.
