For the first time, cultural relations organizations and embassy cultural attachés in Stockholm got together to organize a EUNIC (European Union National Institutes of Culture) Network Effect in April 2008. Inevitably, the topic had to be on European culture - is there such a thing? Is the notion of European culture a flabby construct of Eurocrats and dreamers, or is it living reality? On the one hand there is much (often anguished) debate over what a European identity, and hence culture, might mean. And on the other, there are dozens of young cultural entrepreneurs getting on with the business of creating cultural activities across European borders, without getting too fussed about whether the notion of European culture exists or not. Hence the theme of this Network Effect: European culture - we just do it.
