The British Council co-funds and administers a series of research partnership programmes linking UK-based scientists with their opposite numbers in key countries across Europe. Early career researchers from a whole spectrum of scientific disciplines are in receipt of grants. Funding is provided in the form of grants-in-aid towards the costs of international travel and accommodation for collaborative research visits or for organising a collaborative workshop/seminar. In recognition of the value of international co-operation in academic and scientific research, a collaborative academic research programme was established between the Netherlands and the United Kingdom in 1990. After seventeen years of working with NWO, the British Council now has a new partner; as from 2008 the UK-Netherlands Partnership Programme in Science will be jointly run and financed by the British Council and Platform Bèta Techniek. As from September 2008, the British Council and CGRI-DRI/FNRS will jointly run and finance the Partnership Programme in Science, United Kingdom (UK) & Communauté Française de Belgique Wallonie Bruxelles (CFB-WB). The aim of this Partnership Programme in Science (PPS) is to enable early-stage and talented postdoctoral researchers from higher education institutions in the two countries to meet, exchange ideas and engage in scientific and academic research collaboration.
