Our Shared Europe/Global XChange
Meet the four Our Shared Europe Global Xchange volunteers from the Netherlands!

Please meet Nienke, Maria, Serge and Evlin, the four volunteers from the Netherlands. They travelled to Sharkeya in Egypt on 6 March 2010 where they lived and worked the past three months. This first part of the multilateral exchange programme has already finished and all 24 volunteers leave for London on 26 May where they will meet their new host families and start in their new work placements. The second phase promises to be as exciting and challenging as the first part of the exchange. If you want to follow the experiences of the volunteers, please keep a close eye on this website!

"It might be a challenge to seek for an ultimate balance between adapting and respecting the Arabic culture and being myself. Reflecting on situations and talking to others will help to cope with some difficult periods as well as keeping in mind that this is an ones in a lifetime opportunity!’ Nienke Meijland, 23 years old

"I am excited to meet my host families and my counterpart. I hope to make new friends, make a difference in both communities, improve my language skills and have an experience that I will never forget”. Maria Raifourak, 24 years old
