
With regard to the theme of Amsterdam Capital Book City, Open Book, the phenomenon of exile literature in the (recent) European past and the present will be dicussed. In a series of 8 evenings we attempt to give an overview of some of the faces of exile in European literature in the 20th century, but we will also look into the present forms of exile literature.

The Chronicles is a joint project with Crossing Border festival and aims to use creative writing and translation as a vehicle to engage with next generation Europeans in an active intercultural dialogue addressing issues of language, understanding & identity. During workshops in London and a writer/translator-in-residency at Crossing Border festival in The Hague six up-and-coming British and Dutch authors and translators work together and perform on stage. Our 10th anniversary Edinburgh Showcase in 2007 will again welcome around 200 leading international promoters to Edinburgh during the Fringe and International festivals. Delegates from around fifty countries will see work selected from the UK’s most outstanding established and emerging companies working on the small- to middle-scale touring circuit. The programme will showcase artists who are exploring contemporary issues in innovative ways and working across the disciplines of new writing, physical and visual theatre, and live art. On 1 and 2 June 2007, the Apeldoorn Conference will take place in The Hague. The central theme of the Apeldoorn Conference 2007 is ‘Sustainability’ and the title is Facing up to Reality: Choices for a Sustainable World. The conference will attract a maximum of 50 participants from the UK and 50 from the Netherlands, drawn mainly from the fields of politics, business, government and the media. Participants will be divided into 4 workshop groups. We expect each group to analyse a different but related set of problems; to identify possible choices and solutions and to produce a set of recommendations which they will need to defend in the closing debate titled ‘Choices for a Sustainable World’.

Almost a year after the final performances of our international theatre project On Top of the Town, the documentary film following the 16 teenagers from Groningen and Newcastle and their mentors from Noord Nederlands Toneel and Northern Stage in their process of making the project, is finally ready! The two young film-makers Jonathan Offereins and Elly Scheele spent the last 3 months of the project closely observing and interacting with the two groups in both cities, coached by Anna Spohr from AllAboutUs FilmFactory. For those of you who missed the performances in Newcastle and Groningen, here is an opportunity to see a glimpse of this vibrant, honest and refreshing theatre performance and hear about the experiences from the people who made it.
The premiere of The Making of On Top of the Town will take place in the setting of the Realness Media Festival, 9 – 10 June 2007,at Nowhere in Amsterdam; the first documentary and media festival for young people in the Netherlands, initiated by AllAboutUs FilmFactory.
