British Council Netherlands
How We Work

We work across the arts and cultural fields to develop long-term relationships and professional networks in order to build next generation Europe. We do this through regional partnerships with Dutch and international organisations.

Our partners and priorities
We work primarily on multilateral projects with the following countries: Belgium, Canada, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Malta, Portugal, Spain, Switzerland and USA. We work to strategic themes currently identified as Intercultural Dialogue and Creative and Knowlege Economy.

Our work in the arts

As an international organisation, we can provide links to global networks, not only in the arts but across all sectors of our work, giving you the opportunity to benefit from new professional partnerships and expanding audiences.

We are not a funding body in the usual sense, and we mostly work pro-actively: this means identifying a specific area of interest in the Netherlands where UK arts can play a useful and meaningful role that isn’t already provided elsewhere, and approaching potential partners directly with proposals for working together.

Working with us
In the majority of cases we approach the organisations and/or individuals who we think may be interested in working with us, rather than vice versa. However, we are always open to discussing new ideas and plans from arts professionals, if these are in line with our strategic priorities.

If you would like to work with us, you'll need to contact us well in advance (usually about a year before you plan to deliver your work). Apart from the Grants to Artists scheme for small-scale support for the visual arts, run by our visual arts department in London, there is no formal application procedure.

For more information, contact Canan Marasligil.
