We are working in partnership with the Department of Education, Global Action Nepal (GAN) and the Nepal English Language Teachers Association (NELTA) on this three year project which aims to improve the ability of Primary School English teachers, especially in remote or marginalised areas, to teach the language effectively.
In year one of the project, 216 Primary English Teachers were trained from three remote districts, Kailali, Solukhumbu and Baglung, with 120 hours of English language and teaching methodology training over one intensive month from 17 June to 14 July 2008.
This was followed by a monitoring and follow-up visits in the schools in August- September. The objective of these visits was to promote ETTE project to the principal, teachers, pupils, their parents and the school governors.
This year ETTE training is expanding to three more districts, Makawanpur, Manag and Gulmi.
A course has been developed as an outcome of the Material Development Workshop attended by five ETTE trainers in Almaty, Kazakhstan in 2008. The piloting of this course has started at Baglung from 25 May to 10 June. The course developers will improvise the course based on the feedback from the trainers after the completion of the training.
ETTE Home at Global Action Nepal (GAN)
To provide sustainability to the ETTE project and support the SuperETTEs to continue ETTE project further, ETTE home has been created inside the GAN office. The office has been resourced and funded by British Council, Nepal and officially opened on 29 September 2008. The unit will be resource centre from trainers to be used by trainers for meetings, training, workshops and carrying ETTE project activities.
Over the next three years the project hopes to increase the ability of many more primary school teachers around the country to teach English, so that more primary school children will be able to move onto their secondary schools with the required English language competence.
Material Development Training

The meeting was the follow up of the Material Development workshop attended by ETTE trainers from CSA regions that took place in Almaty Kazakhstan last year.
