On the occasion of the World Water Monitoring Day on 18th September, grade four students of Kathmandu University High School (KUHS) visited a nearby village to test the drinking feasibility of water sources. One of the 57 DGSP schools in Nepal, this awareness raising programme was agreed on by KUHS and its partner school Harnham CE Junior School in the United Kingdom.
The students were accompanied by their teachers to find the sources of water in the village and test whether they were drinkable or not. They collected samples from the nearby well, taps, and tube wells and sent them to be tested at the Dhulikhel hospital. The reports, unfortunately, said that all collected samples were not drinkable.
An programme was organized on the 21st of September to shre the results of the water samples with the villagers and make them aware of healthy drinking habits.
These were some of the activities done by the students:
i)Pasting posters, prepared by students themselves, on the walls of the houses in the village having information on proper use of water and conservation of water sources
ii)Interacting with villagers in their houses and answering queries related to water and drinking habits.
