British Council Virtual Library Pokhara in partnership with Cosmos International College provides a range of information services for students and young professionals, including information on the United Kingdom, education opportunities in the UK and it supports everyone learning the English language. It consists of:

  • E-brary (over 7,500 online books)
  • Online databases (over 5 million articles)
  • Access to British Council Website
  • IELTS preparation materials
  • Reference materials
  • CD–ROMs and DVDs

Users will also have access to

  • Presentations and workshops in Pokhara conducted by BC staff

Our Learning Centre is organised to support self-study and to enhance English learning and teaching skills for both students and professionals.

Our facilities include

  • English language practice materials (CD-Roms)
  • Ielts exam practice materials (CD-roms)
  • useful websites for English language learners, teachers and IELTS candidates
  • limited printed resources

E-brary provides hosted information on management and education that features a growing selection of more than 9,000 titles from more than 200 leading academic and professional publishers.

Users can personalise the database by keeping items on their personal ‘bookshelf’ and can make their own notes on the items they select. This is an incredibly powerful tool for researchers

Encyclopaedia Britannica

This is the world’s most famous and authoritative source of information.  It includes the complete encyclopaedia, dictionary, thesaurus, student encyclopaedia, multi media and Internet guide.  You can also use this to search an Internet Directory that includes more than 200,000 links to websites selected, reviewed and updated daily.

Ashridge Virtual Learning Resource Centre

It's very useful resource to develop your career with access to over 60 learning guides, 60 pocket books, 300 book reviews on management and business, software guides, career development self development excercises, country and industry trends and useful websites.

It also inculdes  Infotrac journal database which provides more than 2.5 million articles from 1984 to present from 250 business and management journals

Oxford English Dictionary

An unsurpassed guide to the meaning, history, and pronunciation of over half a million words, both present and past. It traces the usage of words through 2.5 million quotations from a wide range of international English language sources.

Oxford Reference Online

This brings together 175 language and subject dictionaries and reference resources offering coverage of everything from General Reference, Language and Quotations to Science and Medicine and from Humanities and Social Sciences to Business and Professional.

Oxford Scholarship Online

It is a vast and rapidly expanding cross-searchable library which ow offers quick and easy access to the full text of 2,125 oxford books.

Oxford Art Online and Grove Art Online

These are two databases on art which provide details on arts artists and images. It contains more than 45,000 articles and 500,000 bibliographies contributed by 6700 scholars.

Oxford Music Online and Grove Music Online

These are two gateways on music, musicians, music reference subscriptions and publications. It also includes dictionary of opera. It has above 84,000 articles.

Oxford Dictionary of National Biography

You can view 56,000 biographies of people who contributed to the history of Britain from earliest time to 2004.

Economic and Social Data Service

The catalogue provides access to over 5000 computer readable datasets for research and teaching purposes for many different disciplines. Comprehensive online information, and links to access data, are available for each dataset.
