There are some simple notes on the form and use of the basic four Conditional forms.
ZERO CONDITIONAL
- Used to talk about cause and effect. If X happens, Y is the result.
EG If you mix red and yellow, you get orange.
FIRST CONDITIONAL
- Used to talk about possible future situations, which the speaker thinks are probable.
EG If it rains, she'll go by bus. She won’t walk.
SECOND CONDITIONAL
- Used to talk about imaginary future situations which the speaker thinks are possible but not very probable.
EG If I saved 20 lakhs this year, I'd start building a house.
Used to talk about unreal situations in the present.
EG If I were you, I'd join the Learning Centre at the British Council.
THIRD CONDITIONAL
- Used to talk about past situations that did not happen.
EG If it had been a nice day, I'd have gone to the beach.
