Workshops for Teachers

We have been conducting workshop for Grade one English teachers of Government School  by Christine Stone at the British Council regularly from April 2009.. It is a 20 hour workshop divided between four Saturdays.

Christine has worked in Nepal for over 25 years with teachers and students to develop curriculum for different standards of English language teaching. She has been a consultant to the Nepal Government and numerous International NGOs in Nepal on curriculum development and teaching training.

The workshop helps teachers to upgrade their English teaching techniques to teach young students to learn English at first stage. This enrolment also entitles every teacher for a 6 months membership in our Learning Centre and further access to materials and resources on teaching and learning  English.

Though the workshop is designed mainly from Grade 1 teachers of Government School, now it is open for  teachers from both private and government schools. As the level of teaching is diffferent in private  and government schools , it is open for teachers of lower  KG (of private schools) and class 1( of government schools).

View of participants of April/May Workshop

44 teachers from government  school attended our first workshop. and most of the participants were very happy with the workshop. They have learnt totally a new concept of teaching English and told that even though it will be difficult to apply fully in their schools, they will at least bring some changes.

During Certificate distribution to first batch of teachers on 2 May, Paula Middleton, Country Director British Council Nepal said “English is a medium of educational opportunity and access to international knowledge and standards. These opportunities help bring about transformational changes in systems and curriculums that will assist Nepal’s future growth.  We are delighted with the opportunity of Christine Stone’s experience and skills to run these workshops here at British Council to assist the teaching of Grade One English for teachers.

Christine Stone, the trainer said “This has been a very rewarding time. We have all had great fun singing, playing language games and making things to introduce the sounds of the letters. The teachers have been enthusiastic, and hopefully will give their grade one students a very happy experience as they quickly learn to talk, read and write English.”
