So, what is it really like to study at the British Council?  This month we caught up with students in the Elementary level of Enhance your English, to see how the course is helping them improve their English skills?

When we visited the class, all of the students were busy doing grammar practice activities in their workbooks, assisted by their teacher Jane.  The language point for the day was ‘going to’ which is one way of expressing the future tense in English. Once they had finished the exercises, students then did a speaking game to practice what they had learnt.  Jane went around the class to correct mistakes and help with pronunciation.

At the British Council we have a ‘communicative approach’ to learning. This means that students get to speak and use English as much as possible, even at a basic level.  Students are encouraged to collaborate with their classmates and work together under the guidance of an experienced teacher.

"This course is really helping me to speak English and improve my grammar, said Hari Prasad, one of the course participants." He said that he enjoyed the active learning environment, meeting different people in class and having access to additional learning resources in the Learning Centre.

Two other students, Chitranjan Singh and Rashand Paudel (pictured left) echoed these views. “We are so happy with our Jane” they said. They described me how the course was helping them with reading, writing and listening skills and they enjoyed the different activities they did in class.  “The British Council is the best institute in Nepal”, they felt.  “We want to spend the whole day here, not just two hours”.
