Last Thursday I played with a jazz trio at a little club in Amman, a weekly gig, you get good nights and you get not so good nights, last Thursday was somewhere in between... Wednesday though I put together a jam session at another pub and it was great fun, Wednesday jams are weekly too...
Well, it's my profession, my recreation and my shelter. Miles Davis said that the day he was introduced to music was a cursed day because since then he wasn't able to think about anything else, I think I know what he means.
That would be an album called Nomade by German accordion player Manfred Leuchter, I've been looking for this kind of music for a while, jazz fusion with accordion as the main instrument. I was not disappointed, catchy tunes, very skilled band and the accordion was just as good as I expected it to be, what’s even better is that today I found a pretty good accordionist here in Amman and he's gonna be recording on a couple of tracks on my band's upcoming album.
I admire many, but I’ll name a few not in order though, Mohammad Al Qasabji (Egyptian) and Thelonious Monk for extreme originality while maintaining a strong link to roots, Bono for exceptional charisma and stage presence, Miles Davis for defining coolness and his ability to reinvent himself, as for bassists, Richard Bona for his amazing groove when he grooves, and his ethereal tunes and harmonies with voice and bass, Paul Jackson is great too and Stanley Clarke. I'm also a huge fan of Tunisian oud player Anouar Brahem who has a gig in London around the 20th of May which I’m hoping to catch, same goes to Bobby Mcferrin.
I hate eggplants, I think they are the devils incarnate!
